June, foreign holiday home owners can apply for a co-ordination number after a new decision taken in the Swedish parliament.

Link to the decision in Riksdagen

In Sweden, the national systems for all kinds of services and trades are based on personal identity numbers. In order to, for example, pay property taxes, foreign holiday home owners have received a so-called GD number to use in contact with the Swedish Tax Agency. This number has not been distributed in society in general, and fulfills no function in contact with private actors, which means it can not be used in the signing of, for example, electricity, telecommunications, and internet agreements. Foreign holiday home owners therefore need to be able to apply for a coordination number which is disseminated in society through the States personadressregister (Swedish Personal Address Register), SPAR.

There are around 36 500 foreign holiday home owner in Sweden, where over 10 000 are from Denmark. Until now, it has not been possible for this group to apply for a co-ordination number. This will change after the 18th June 2021, when foreign holiday home owners will be able to apply for a co-ordination number after a decision in the Swedish parliament.
